Sakhisizwe -Building the Nation - Bou Die Nasie

On Sakhisizwe we had Deirdré Taylor from the organisation My Child Has Cancer Trust, a support group for families with children who are struggling with cancer. Deirdré told us about the importance of creating a network of mutual support and solidarity amongst families who have experienced or are experienced similar circumstances in order to help them cope better with the difficult reality they are facing. For instance, the organisation provides support through informative sessions, offering help with everyday life business – such as groceries, picking up the other siblings from school – advice and emotional support.                                             By: Giulia Monteleone

TODAY ON SAKHISIZWE WE HAD AN INTERVIEW WITH  NORMAN JACOBS AND ALBET FROM BONTEHEUWEL THEY WERE TELLING US ABOUT THE EVENT THEY ARE GOING TO HOST ON THE 16 OF JUNE 2017 CALLED AWAKENING THIS EVENT WILL SERVE AS THE FOUNDATION TO START MOVEMENT THAT INTEGRATE THE YOUTH ACROSS THE VARIOUS CAPE FLATS COMMUNITIES, THE EVENT IS ABSOLUTELY FREE TO THE COMMUNITY AND IS NOT AIMED AT RAISING FUNDS AND IT WILL NOT BE A ONCE OFF EVENT, THE COORDINATORS OF THE EVENTENDEAVOUR TO SPREAD MORE PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS THAT WOULD SET THE FOUNDATION FOR YOUNG PEOPLE TO BECOME INVOLVED IN THEIR COMMUNITIES, THEY ALSO AIM TO CREATE OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE WHO ARE LESS PRIVILEGED.
