Wednesday - Gender - Sonke Gender Justice Workshop
Sonke’s vision is a world in
which men, women and children can enjoy equitable, healthy and happy
relationships that contribute to the development of just and democratic
societies.
Sonke Gender Justice works
across Africa to strengthen government, civil society and citizen
capacity to promote gender equality, prevent domestic and sexual violence, and
reduce the spread and impact of HIV and AIDS.
They elaborated on the level of rape that’s high in South
Africa hence Sonke together with their allies
and other grassroots NGO have been demanding the National Strategic Plan on how we can combat GBV ( Gender Base Violence)
from the government. Patrick adds that
in that plan government needs to fund media that at grassroots level like Bush Radio
to tell inform listens about the issues of prevention on violence at primary level.
He also touched on Violence in general, making examples of some
of the townships in the Western Cape
where violence is extremely high. He continues to talk about how we raise our children
leaves a mark on their development and how they contribute in society and at home.
Our role is to be part
of the solution to solve the high levels of violence in South
Africa .
