Arts, Culture & Environment - Passage probes Manliness

In today's show, we spoke to emerging young director - Thando Doni. We were talking about his new play, Passage , that will be showcased at the Baxter Flipside for a short season from 4 th to 22 nd of March. Commissioned by the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Passage was devised by Doni and the cast and is an exciting new collaboration between the Baxter Theatre Centre, Magnet Theatre and Zabalaza Theatre Festival. Through combining different styles such as physical movement, music, storytelling, poetry and rituals, Passage probes and looks at how boys grow into responsible, caring men. Performed in English, Afrikaans, Xhosa, Sotho and Pedi, there is an age restriction of 12 years. Passage previews on 4 th of March, opens on 5 th and runs until 22 nd of March at 11am (for schools) and 6pm except on the 8 th of March when it starts at 8pm. The Baxter Theatre presents the 4th annual Zabalaza Theatre Festival

Gender - Free Gender, TAC and PASSOP to host a dialogue on the issues of homophobia

On sakhisizwe today, we spoke to Funeka Soldaat - Coordinator at Free Gender. Free Gender, Treatment Action Campaign and PASSOP (LGBTI Refugees) will be hosting a prayer and a dialogue on the issues of homophobia in the continent. Support My Child Has Cancer Trust

We closed off with Deidre Taylor – from the My Child Has Cancer Trust. Their vision is to be the organisation of choice providing support to families affected by childhood cancer across all communities, irrespective of religious background, race or gender in South Africa . On the 26 th of February 2014 , The Crypt Jazz Restaurant will be hosting the My Child Has Cancer Trust Comedy Fundraiser . Arts, Culture & Environment - Today is the International Mother Language Day

On Sakhisizwe today, we spoke to Nceba kazi Saliwa-Mogale – From the Pan South African Language Board. We were talking about the International Mother Language Day, which is celebrated today the 21 st of February. This day has been observed yearly since February 2000 to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. She explained more about the importance of mother language. Craig Makhosi Charnock says "Black is the New Black"

Craig Makhosi Charnock - founder of UBuntu Bridge, an ex-thwasa and a kwaito musician was Instudio. Craig is said to be passionate about bringing African language learning to South Africans in fun and accessible ways. UBuntu Bridge is a community engaging social enterprise and is crowdfunding to produce a fun and practical Learn Xhosa Video Series (for online, DVD and mobile platforms), to act as the glue for social cohesion. He is also working on a Kwaito album with "Black is the New Black" as promo single. PEN South Africa to celebrate International Mother Language Day

We closed off with Dr Tessa Dowling – From UCT’s School of African Languages and Literatures. PEN South Africa will host an event to celebrate International Mother Language Day. Dr Dowling will present a talk on “Seeing the World through the eyes of an African language speaker”. Carole Bloch, the director of the Project for the Study of Alternative Education in South Africa (PRAESA), will talk about the hugely popular Nal’ibali Reading for Pleasure Project and the significance of using African languages to develop a reading culture. Finally, Nobuhle Mngcwengi of Xhosa Fundis will talk about her mother-tongue and entertain the audience with some of her favourite songs. 13 WOMEN series presents Asanda Msuthu

We closed off with Asanda Msuthu - A community activist. Asanda will be speaking at t he WOMAN ZONE : 13 WOMEN series. Asanda is a young lesbian and activist in her community. She supports other young women in dealing with prevalent stigma and violence, mentors those that are HIV positive and facilitates an after-school soccer programme. She is on the Board of Directors of I Am Somebody and is committed to developing herself and helping others reach their dreams. HOPES invites Retreat parents to a public meeting

They are calling all parents who have school children with a drug problem to a public meeting to be hosted tomorrow in Retreat. Primary Science Programme turns 30

We closed off with Zorina Dharsey – Primary Science Programme Director . PSP is a teacher in-service education organisation that aims to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the most disadvantaged primary schools in the province. They develop teachers’ knowledge and skills and support them in their work with learners. Zorina explained more. In today's show, we spoke to Shabeer Jhetam – CEO of the Glass Recycling Company. It is reported that South Africans have increased the glass recycling rate to 40.6%. According to company CEO, TGRC is excited to see that everyday South Africans continue to make the effort to recycle, reuse and even return glass for refilling. He explained more. The company is South Africa ’s official organisation for promoting glass recycling. It is a not-for-profit organisation and is mandated to keep glass alive by promoting the practice of recovering, recycling glass. Greenpeace Africa to discuss fracking

We heard from Ruth Mhlanga - Greenpeace Africa Climate and energy campaigner. On Wednesday the 19 th of February , Greenpeace Africa will be convening a discussion on the issue of Fracking, and the public is invited to join. Le-Lo & KwakieG ready to go national

We closed off with Le-Lo. Le-Lo has been involved in the music industry since Grade 10 at Lentegeur High school in Mitchell’s Plain. In 2007 at the age of 15 he started with a group called “duz” writing his own rhymes where he basically started as a hype man and began to adopt flows and learnt a lot from other artists. Labour - CCMA settles unfair labour practice disputes

On Sakhisizwe today, we spoke to Nashira Abrahams - Dispute Management and Prevention Commissioner at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration or CCMA. We were talking about unfair labour practice disputes. Unfair labour practice is unfair treatment by an employer of an employee or job applicant. Section 185 of the Labour Relations Act states that “every employee has the right not to be subjected to an unfair labour practice”, Nashira explained more.
