PEN South Africa to celebrate International Mother Language Day

We closed off with Dr Tessa Dowling – From UCT’s School of African Languages and Literatures. PEN South Africa will host an event to celebrate International Mother Language Day. Dr Dowling will present a talk on “Seeing the World through the eyes of an African language speaker”. Carole Bloch, the director of the Project for the Study of Alternative Education in South Africa (PRAESA), will talk about the hugely popular Nal’ibali Reading for Pleasure Project and the significance of using African languages to develop a reading culture. Finally, Nobuhle Mngcwengi of Xhosa Fundis will talk about her mother-tongue and entertain the audience with some of her favourite songs.
