Maleeka Mokallik - Public Relations and Communications Manager at Cape
Mental Health joined us on the line to talk about their call to action
for mental health. In commemoration of Psychiatric Disability Awareness Month,
the Cape Mental Health Society’s 2013 campaign is calling for action on mental
health since it’s been reported that between 1% and 3% of the South African
population are likely to suffer from a mental health problem severe enough to
require hospitalisation. She said limited beds and resources creates a
revolving door for mentally ill. Cape Mental Health is calling for action on
mental health by making it a priority and up scaling mental health services
such as the lack of beds. MHS will be hosting a demonstration tomorrow, July
10th on the corner of Wale
Street and St
George’s Cathedral from 12:00PM to 14:00PM .
