September is Deaf Awareness Month

Jabaar Mohamed
We were also joined by Jabaar Mohamed - Provincial director of Deaf South Africa in the Western Cape and Unathi Kave - Sign Language Interpreter to tell us more about Deaf Awareness Month. Deaf Awareness Month is about recognizing the deaf people in our community as well as looking back at the achievements of pioneers in deaf culture. DeafSA envisions a fully functional Deaf community with equality in society, empowered to utilise opportunities in order to create and sustain a high quality of life. The federation acts as the national research, information and community action organisation on behalf of ±600 000 South Africans that are culturally and linguistically Deaf. For further information you can contact DeafSA WC on (021) 683 4665 or visit www.deafsa.co.za alternatively send an email to provincialdirector.wc@deafsa.co.za or SMS 072 477 1852 or BBM 22BDFFB3.
