03 October - Health - October 8th marks World Hospice and Palliative Care Day

In today's show, we heard from Kathy Henning – Chief Operating Officer at the Hospice Palliative Care Association of South Africa. We were talking about Hospice Palliative Care. October 8th is the World Hospice and Palliative Care Day. The Theme is "many diseases, many lives, many voices". Palliative Care is defined by the World Health Organisation as an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing problems associated with life-threatening illness, through the prevention and relief of suffering by means of early identification and impeccable assessment and treatment of pain and other problems, physical, psychosocial and spiritual. They will be hosting a 10KM walk in the hope that 10 people will tell 10 people about HPCA, and they will tell another 10 more. For more information contact their offices on (021) 531 0277 or visit www.hospicepalliativecaresa.co.za
