We were also joined by Mr Courtney Sampson – IEC’s Provincial Electoral Officer. As South Africans we are aware the that elections are around the corner, soon the President will announce the Election Date but to vote in National, Provincial and Municipal elections, you have to register as a voter. You only have to register once, unless your voting district changes. For those who need to re-register this coming weekend is the last registration weekend. Voting stations will open between 08:00am till 5:00PM. You need to register in person. So bring your South African, green, bar-coded ID book or a Valid Temporary Identity Certificate (TIC) if you don’t have an ID book. For more information call 0800 11 8000 toll free from a landline or SMS your ID to 32810 if you are already registered to check your details alternatively go to www.elections.org.za and click the “Am I registered?” tab.
Our last interview was with Dr Keith and Mrs Catherine Borien – from the Borien Education Foundation for Southern Africa. Their aim is to provide education and training for the many people of South Africa and beyond, who have been excluded, for whatever reason from learning. They want to enable rural and township schools and the communities they serve to become agents for change, responsible for their own development. Their motto is to reduce poverty through education. We all know education is a basic human right. Dr and Mrs Borien explained more about the projects they run. For more information, you can visit their website on www.befsa.org alternatively send an email to keithborien@befsa.org or catherineborien@befsa.org
