25 October 2007 – Labour

Today on Sakhisizwe we had an interview with Asanda Fongqo – Spokesperson for the Democratic Nurses Organisation of South Africa or Denosa. We spoke about the recruitment of nurses from India due to the lack of registered nurses in the country. According to Denosa the prevalent gross staff shortages of nurses impacts directly on efficient service delivery in the health sector. For more information you can contact DENOSA at (012) 343 2315 or visit http://www.denosa.org.za/

Roger Brown – an attorney from Labour Protect joined us to talk about unlawful retrenchments. Retrenchments occur for various reasons, but a clearly demonstrated reason to initiate retrenchment, relating to the business's "operational requirements", must exist for a lawful retrenchment to take place. And our last interview today was with Christian Lackay – Tafelsig Youth League Against Crime Project Manager. The organisation is offering free sewing and arts & Crafts training to the Tafelsig community members. If you want to hear more give them a call on 073 292 0574 or (021) 391 7414.
