We also spoke to Karen Borochowitz – from Dementia South Africa. We were talking about Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia. Dementia is a collective name for conditions in which progressive degeneration of the brain affects memory, thinking, behavior and emotion. The exact cause of Alzheimer’s disease and most of the other dementias has yet to be established. Many theories have been put forward. Like most medical disorders, Alzheimer’s disease is probably caused by a combination of genetic factors and environmental influences. Karen told us more on how you can take care of someone who has Alzheimer’s.
