Today we spoke to Emerentia Esterhuyser – Social Worker at the Postnatal Depression Support Association of South Africa. The association was founded to break the conspiracy of silence about mood disorders associated with childbirth and to de-stigmatize perinatal depression and anxiety. Emerentia told us more about what they do. For more information you can contact their offices at (021) 797 4498 or the national helpline at 082 882 0072 alternatively visit www.pndsa.co.za.
And we also spoke to Bernedette Muthien – Director of Engender. We will be talking about one of their project called Reclaiming Indigenous Women’s Power in Southern Africa: the Khoisan. Because today decision making and leadership structures in the Khoisan communities are dominated by men and reflect the internalised values of over 300 years of patriarchy and economic inequality, this project tries to challenge that by empowering women. For more information you can contact their offices at (021) 448 2112 or visit www.engender.org.za.
Our last interview was with Sarah Riodan – Board Member of Hers SA. Their mission is to develop and offer accessible education, training and development programmes for women working in the higher education environment. For more information you can contact their offices at (021) 763 7156 or visit www.hers-sa.org.za.
