And we also spoke to Vanessa Ludwig – Acting Director and Programme coordinator for the Gender Equity Unit at the University of Western Cape. The Gender Equity Unit is committed to the goal of gender and racial transformation at the University of the Western Cape and in the wider South African society. They work to improve women and other marginalised groups’ access to tertiary education, so that they in turn may improve their access to economic and social resources in our society and enjoy their rightful claim to full human rights. For more information you can contact their offices at (021) 959 2812 or email gender@uwc.ac.za

Our last interview was with Patricia Matolengwe from the Victoria Mxenge and the Peace Lillies Project. This is a project started by homeless women who learnt about every aspect of building as they designed and constructed their own homes. After being trained as tourist guides they initiated an art and craft project. Their crafts are sold to a large retail chain, affording an income for the woman. If you want more information about the project you can contact their office at (021) 371 9625 or email Patricia at matolengwezp@telkomsa.net. They are located in Phillippi off Landsdowne Road in Victoria Mxenge.
