Angelica Pino – from Sonke Gender Justice Network joined us on the line. Sonke Gender Justice Network, in partnership
with the Gender Unit at the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria and
the Centre for the Study of AIDS, University of Pretoria, will be conducting a
short human rights course on ‘The Role of Men and Boys in Achieving Gender
Equality’. The course is a short, intensive, five days course which seeks
to expand the knowledge of individuals and organisations to scale up work on
engaging men and boys for gender equality within a feminist framework. In doing
so, it aims to debate the ideological and political implications of a gender
transformation approach where engaging men and boys is key, strengthen existing
work on the greater involvement of men and boys in the prevention and response
to gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive health and rights, HIV and
AIDS and parenthood and other issues pertaining to gender equality. The course
is aimed at gender activists, programme staff and project managers from women’s
rights, sexual and reproductive health and rights, HIV and AIDS organisations,
youth leaders, government officials. The closing date for applications is the 23rd of September 2013 .
