We were also joined by Angelo Fortuin -
Project Officer at UWC’s Gender Equity Unit,
Mandy Sanger - of the District Six
Homecoming Centre and Bianca van Rooi - Words 4 Women cast member. We were
talking about the Mind your Language Dialogue that’s taking place tomorrow at
the District Six Museum Homecoming Centre. UWC’s Gender Equity Unit is
celebrating its 20th anniversary and in partnership with the
District Six Museum Homecoming Centre they are inviting the public to their
open discussion entitled “Mind Your
Language” featuring a theatre production “Words 4 Women” tomorrow August 15th, 2013 at the Centre
from 6:30PM . The production
plays with a variety of stereotypes and the effect is a celebration of women
and their bodies as the young student cast uses words and actions to bring
powerful and celebratory meaning to words that are often used to demean and
oppress women. Therefore they call on new interpretations of the words in the
different languages through their performance. For further information you can contact Maria Claassen
on (021) 959 2812 or send an email to mclaassen@uwc.ac.za
