We also spoke to Bertha Peters – Scheepers - Senior manager of Public Relations and Service Delivery for the Health Professions Council of South Africa. She was speaking to us about HPCSA's call for more focus on early domestic violence detection incidents. This comes following the death of one of their employee, who was shot and fatally wounded on Monday in a domestic violence incident by her policeman boyfriend at the Moot police station. According to the guidelines, emergency care professionals must now, as a professional obligation, be responsive to domestic violence by the following actions: Screening, Assess risk , Document diligently, Provide information and Refer responsibly - referring clients to appropriate resources and to identify their support system. For further information you can contact the HPCSA on (012) 338 9300/9301 or send an email to info@hpcsa.co.za
