We closed off with an interview with Dr Sabie Surtee - Director of Higher Education Resource Services South (HERS-SA). We were talking about the organisation and the 2012 Academy which is now open for applications. HERS–SA is a self sustaining non profit organisation dedicated to the advancement of women in the Higher Education sector by advocating for, and contributing to the career development of women employed in academia via carefully crafted interventions including hosting the first national conference on Women in Leadership in Higher Education and the annual HERS-SA ACADEMY that attracts women from all over sub-Saharan Africa. The Academy is a week long interactive professional development opportunity for women employed in Higher Education throughout Southern Africa aimed at women currently employed or possessing the potential to be employed, in senior management level. The programme is designed to present an overarching perspective of higher education as networking among the 80 participants and over 35 presenters forms a key component of the Academy.
