06 September - Human Rights - SACEE reading project looking for volunteers

In today’s show, we spoke to Delia Scott – Volunteer at the South African Council for English Education. SACEE aims to maintain, promote and encourage education through the English medium and to improve the standards of written and spoken English in South Africa. SACEE has started a reading project for children in Grades 3 and 6 in a few of the schools in disadvantaged areas and they are looking for volunteers to read to the children. They are appealing to people to give up an hour or so on Wednesday mornings to help. No previous training is needed but a love of reading and children will help. Child Protection Week is an annual observance dedicated to raising awareness about the rights and well-being of children. It typically includes a series of events, campaigns, and activities aimed at promoting child safety, preventing abuse, and advocating for policies and practices that support children's healthy development.  Molo Songololo is a registered non-profit organization that promotes the rights and protection of children and youth, and especially girls. Their work aligns with the goals of Child Protection Week, focusing on advocacy, education, and empowerment to create a safer and more inclusive environment for children.
