We also spoke to Patrick Godana - Gender and social justice activist for Sonke Gender
Justice Network to tell us more about their call to support the peace education
programmes.This follows
documented research that shows sexual and gender based violence (SGBV) against
women and girls, and increasingly against men and boys is prevalent during armed
conflicts. Therefore Sonke Gender Justice is calling upon the African Union,
and regional bodies alike, to support peace education programmes that promote
gender equality and challenge harmful stereotypes about men and women, in order
to eradicate SGBV in conflict once and for all, and to move closer towards
world peace. For further information you can contact Patrick on (021) 423 7088
or send an email to patrick@genderjustice.org.za
