Philip Bam - Executive Director of the League of
Friends of the Blind or LOFOB joined us to talk about their 2013 sight
restoration campaign in partnership with the Cape Eye Hospital . This year’s campaign will assist 100
impoverished individuals with free cataract removal and lens replacement
surgery as cataracts remain the leading cause of blindness worldwide and state
hospitals are inundated with requests for cataract removal and lens replacement
surgery. LOFOB is honoured to be part of an initiative that transforms lives
and builds brighter futures and therefore emphasises the importance of having
regular eye examinations and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Individuals most
at risk of blindness include those living with diabetes, hypertension, HIV,
adults over the age of 40 and individuals with a family history of visual
impairment. For further information you can contact LFOB on (021) 705 3753 or
