In today's show, we heard from Cebo Kutuka - Assistant Director of the Enforcement and Inspection
Services for the Department of Labour to tell us about the outcome of last
week’s agricultural blitz and the upcoming Labour Imbizo for domestic workers. The
blitz forms part of the department’s national work plan which seeks to address
inspections in high risk areas as labour inspectors embarked on a series of
inspections to different farms around the province. Last week’s agriculture
blitz in Citrusdal , Western Cape focused on checking
compliance with Occupational Health and Safety conditions and the Basic
Conditions of Employment Act. Meanwhile Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant is calling on all workers, work-seekers, unemployed and others to
attend a Labour Imbizo that she will be hosting next week Saturday, 2nd
of November at Mandela Park Stadium in Khayelitsha from 10:00AM focusing on domestic
workers. The department hopes to share information with as many people as possible and
therefore will be transporting a number of domestic workers from surrounding
areas, such as Worcester , to attend also. For
