isha! – An African Poetry X- change that will be launched at the Africa Centre on Heritage Day. Formerly known as the Spier Poetry Exchange this project - which in late January 2008 took the form of a one-week festival with a series of educational community-based satellite activities – has been further developed by the curators Malika Ndlovu and Lorelle Royeppen –Viegi in a range of poetry and related activities throughout the year. Khadija and Harrison will be part of the feast of ten Cape Town - based poets who will perfom during the launch of the first series of events - a National Heritage Day event entitled Belongings: A Poetic X-ploration of Heritage. It will be hosted at the Africa Centre in 44 Long Street on Heritage Day from 15h00 to 17h00PM. Be there or be squared!!!PICS: Cindy Witten
We closed off the show with an interview with Carol Kaufmann - curator of African Art at the Iziko Museum. They will be exhibiting “Voices of the Ancestors” which is a display of musical instruments from South, East and Central Africa draws on the collections of the Iziko Art Divison and the large holdings of the Iziko Social History Division. Many of these instruments have not been exhibited to the public before and some are virtually unknown today. We were talking about the exhibition to take place at the Iziko South African National Gallery on Heritage Day Wednesday 24th of September.
