In today’s show, we played an interview conducted by Sakhisizwe’s Producer Tina George. She spoke to Councillor Basil Lee – From the Rondevlei Sub-council. He was talking about the Leaners Licence Project. The Rondevlei Sub-council’s learner’s and driver’s licence programme - Help our People Excel project - was initiated last year and was designed to help learners get their driver’s licence before leaving school to increase their chances of finding employment in the near future. For more information call (021) 710 8394.
We also heard from Sue Viljoen – From the Institute for Best Employment Practice. We were talking about the Importance of Employment Contract. It is reported that many employers out there do not provide employment contracts but according to the Basic Conditions of Employment Act – section 29, every employer is required by the law to provide the employee with a written contract of employment not later that the first day of commencement of employment. And last but not least we were joined by Jaco Kleynhans - spokesperson for Solidarity. Soildarity has welcomed the move by the Chamber of Mines to tackle the growing issue of skills shortage. The Chamber announced on Tuesday that they wish to implement a job creation and skills development agency to train unemployed South African as masters of craft. Jaco says Artisan training should take priority, because we find ourselves in a real skills crisis. For more information on Solidarity contact 0861 25 24 23 or visit www.solidaritysa.co.za
