Health - November marks Men’s Health Awareness Month

Andrew Oberholzer - CEO of the Prostate Cancer Foundation joined us on the line to talk about cycling for better public awareness. November marks Men’s Health, Prostate and Testicular Awareness Month and two of South Africa’s high profile urologists Dr Lance Coetzee Chairman of the South African Prostate Cancer Foundation and Professor Shingai Matumbirwa head of the Department of Urology at MEDUNSA are currently embarking on a cycle challenge to raise awareness about prostate cancer with UK doctors and patients. The six day cycle challenge kicked off in Wellington yesterday and will cover more than 450 km, through the scenic towns of the Western Cape before concluding on Friday November 8 in Cape Agulhas. The foundation aims to create education and awareness about the disease in order to ensure early diagnosis and optimal treatment. It is said that screening for prostate cancer is relatively simple and inexpensive and if detected early, treatment results are highly successful. Men from the age of 50 should go for an annual Prostate Specific Antigen test and a digital Rectal Examination. For further information you can contact the foundation on (011) 791 1791 or send an email to info@prostate-ca.co.za alternatively visit www.prostate-ca.co.za
