Health - WC Health Department and Clicks to provide immunisation and family planning services

In today's show, we spoke to Hélène Rossouw - Spokesperson for the Western Cape Minister of Health to tell us more about the partnership between the Provincial Department of Health and Clicks to provide immunisation and family planning services including medication to state and private patients at Clicks clinics. The agreement which enables the pharmacy group to provide immunisations and family planning stock to all patients was officially launched last week Tuesday at Vangate Mall in Athlone. It’s seen as a forerunner to a service provider project that will enable pharmacy groups to provide similar services throughout the province. Following the success of the pilot programme that ran since last year November at 12 Clicks clinics and have resulted in more than 500 baby immunisations and consultations rendered. The public are set to benefit from this as primary health care facilities channel patients toward Clicks clinics and shorten the queues at primary health care facilities. Patients are encouraged to dial 0860 254 257 and make an appointment for a consultation with a nurse at a Clicks Clinic, for vaccines or contraceptives as stock will be provided by provincial government to Clicks clinics.  Unfortunately there is a small convenience fee of R75.00 for vaccines compare to R3 500 that vaccination medication could cost for babies in their first 18 months, and R50 for the first time family planning consultation while a follow-up will be R35. But on Thursday afternoons from 13:30PM till 17:00PM these services will be free for all patients whose children were born in a state hospital and without access to medical aid.
