07 March - Arts, Culture and Environment
Today's show was very interesting, we spoke to Albert Ashraf Webster – From the City of Cape Town’s Arts and Culture Unit, Mandisi – chairperson of the Cape Town High Schools Programme and Katlego. They were here to talk about a musical play that is focusing on life skills, substance abuse and other challenges faced daily by the youth. The play was conceptualised and developed by the participants of the Cape Town High Schools Programme, funded by the city. The New Africa Theatre Association will stage this original play at the Artscape Arena from the 7th of March till the 9th. There will only be four performances. A donation of R20 will be required. A contribution of the proceedings will be going to a selected rehabilitation centre. Albert says schools who are intersted in booking a perfomance to educate their learners about the dangers of substance abuse can do so. If you want more information about the play or you would like to book a perfomance contact Albert on (021) 400 4573.
We were also joined by Greg Moolman – A Dance instructor. Greg gives dance classes at Westridge Civic Centre every Thursdays from 7PM till 9PM. Dance styles include Social, competitive ballroom dancing, Latin and jazz. If you think you have what it takes to Cha_cha, rumba or Jive or for more information contact Greg on 082 564b4505 or (021) 414 4089.
Nigel Vermaas was also in today for the Arts update in and around the city. He’ll be back again next week Friday.
We closed off the show with an interview with Dale Yudelman – a photographer. We were talking about his exhibition titled I am. Yudelman is a professional photographer with long experience of working as a journalist. His photographs from his critically acclaimed ongoing series Reality Bytes have been featured in numerous shows in South Africa, Europe and the USA. Now this current exhibition pursues a more personal account of the individuals who apply for work on public notice boards and will be running till the 5th of April at the Photographer’s Gallery at 63 Shortmarket Street in Cape Town. They are open on Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 to 17:00 and on Saturday from 11:00 to 14:00. For more information call (021) 422 2762 or visit www.erdmanncontemporary.co.za
