A.R.T.S. Entertainment Addressing Elitism in Cape Town's Music Industry

I had the privilege to speak to Masedi and Sliq from A.R.T.S. Entertainment this week. Arts in Cape Town are widespread, and the main goal of A.R.T.S. Entertainment is to support disenfranchised artists by providing studios, hosting events, and educating artists on how the music industry works.

Masedi, an artist herself, created iKAPA2theWORLD, meaning Cape Town to the world, a platform that recognizes artists and creatives from unrecognized communities in a city where the elite and divided ecosystem only caters for the few. The aim of iKAPA2theWORLD is to help creatives thrive in the world and show the rest of South Africa and the world that Cape Town has just as much potential in the arts and culture industry.

In this interview, Masedi shares the challenges and successes that she and A.R.T.S. Entertainment have encountered. Capital injection has been a significant challenge A.R.T.S Entertainment has had to overcome, more specifically convincing partners to sponsor underdogs. Along that note, Masedi has been involved in promoting positive self-talk, namely in getting artists to believe in themselves and what they’re doing.
