Woodside Special Care Centre & Retina SA

At the start of this new week we spoke to Gregory Sirmongpong (fundraiser,) Lauren Fuller (occupational therapist manager) and Gerald Weinberg (parent). All are involved in the Woodside Special Care Centre which is a residential home caring for intellectually disabled patients.

They came to speak to us about the Intellectual disability awareness month which is starting in March. Giving us a better insight on life and work with people who are intellectually disabled and the incorrect stigmas still associated with these people.

Be sure to also check out the Crazy Store Superhero Charity Dash at Mouille Point Lighthouse in Seapoint on the 21st of March (8:30 - 12pm).

At 1:30pm we spoke to Claudette Medefindt, head of science at Retina South Africa. Claudette gave us an insight on their work as a patient group dedicated to bringing promising clinical trails and treatments against retinal vision loss to South Africa. She gave us a short breakdown of the different types of conditions and the possible treatment options available right now. (No complete treatment exists atm so research is very important).

People can contribute to their cause by sending DREAM to 38267, this donates 10 Rand to the organisation. Or contribute on the website for higher amounts. (+ 250 Rand is tax deductible).
