We closed off with Brigitte
LeClercq - A registered dietician and spokesperson of the Association for
Dietetics in South Africa to tell us more about healthy eating. This week
is Obesity Week and the theme is ‘Eat
less – choose your portion with caution!’ It is reported that overweight and obesity
are affecting the majority of South Africans, especially adult women and
preschool children. This is putting South Africans at risk for chronic
diseases, such as heart disease and strokes, diabetes and some cancers. ‘Eat less – choose your portion with caution!’
will be the central message for National Nutrition Week 2013, with three
important supplementary messages, namely:
·
Choose
a variety of foods from different food groups and eat recommended amounts
·
Make
portion control a daily way of life
·
Use
salt and foods high in salt sparingly
