We closed off with Athol Williams - Chairman of READ to RISE and Author of Oaky and the Sun
to tell us more about his book and his Read to Rise reading initiative. Athol
recently launched the Read to Rise programme that entails volunteers reading
and interacting with two thousand pupils in Grade 2 and grade 3 at five
different primary schools in Mitchell’s Plain. Brightly illustrated Oaky and
the Sun convey a simple message about finding one’s purpose as it explains
Oaky’s development from an acorn to an oak tree. The initiative hopes the
reading has a ripple effect on friends and family one school at a time. They
hope to reach more Mitchell’s Plain learners next year and therefore are
appealing to anyone keen on sponsoring books or volunteering to read. For
further information you can contact Read to Rise by sending an email to taryn@doinggreatthings.co.za Tuesday, November 12, 2013
