May 17th marks World Hypertension Day

We heard from Jessica Bacon - Registered dietician at the Heart and Stroke Foundation to tell us more about high blood pressure. The Heart and Stroke Foundation South Africa has joined its voice with the World Health Organisation to call on South Africans to know their blood pressure. It is reported that with 6.3 million people living with high blood pressure, South Africa has one of the highest rates of hypertension worldwide. This week Friday, May 17th marks World Hypertension Day or High Blood Pressure. World Hypertension Day aims to promote public awareness of hypertension and to encourage citizens of all countries to prevent and control this silent killer, the modern epidemic. This year’s theme is “Healthy Heart Beat-Healthy Blood Pressure”. For further information you can contact the Foundation on 0860 1 43278 (0860 1 HEART) or visit www.heartfoundation.co.za
