Are you registered for the Compensation Fund?
We also heard from Michael Bagraim – Labour Law Specialist from Bagraims Attorneys. We were talking about the Compensation Fund. According to the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act, employers must pay a certain amount of money into a central fund each month. The amount depends on how dangerous the industry is, how many workers are employed in the company and the wages paid to the workers. It came into effect in 1994 and replaced the old Workmen’s Compensation Act. The person in charge of this fund is the Compensation Commissioner, Mr Bagraim explained more about the Compensation Fund and the role of the Compensation Commissioner. For more information visit www.labour.gov.za or call 0800 20 49 74. For more information about Mr Bagraim services go to www.bagraims.co.za or contact (021) 422 860.
