Out In Africa, South African Gay & Lesbian Film Festival currently on at the Nu Metro!!!

We closed off the show with an interview with Arthur Mataruse - Production Assistant for the Out In Africa, South African Gay & Lesbian Film Festival. The Annual festival was set out to address the lack of visibility of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex individuals in South African social and cultural life after decades of apartheid repression and to counter negative images of LGBTIs that prevail in traditional and religious communities as well as to serve as a platform for discussion and debate about the situation of LGBTIs in a newly founded democracy. According to media reports 700 posters advertising the festival were removed from City lamp posts over a two-day period. The festival organizers have lodged a case of malicious damage to property with the Cape Town police. Arthur explained more about this year's festival. This year celebrates the 16th year of Gay cinema in South Africa. It is happening at Nu Metro Cinema at the V&A Waterfront, started last week Thursday till Sunday the 20th of September. If you would like any information about the festival, you can visit the Out in Africa website www.oia.co.za or call (021) 461 4027.
