Recognising Muslim Marriages
We closed off the show with an interview with Waheeda Amien – Member of the Recognition of Muslim Marriages Forum. We were talking about recognising Muslim Marriages. A recent Constitutional Court ruling enabling widows of polygamous marriages to inherit a share of their deceased husbands’ estates has been lauded by the Muslim community. This ruling said to be a great victory for women in totality as so many women have been denied their rights to inheritance, even though they were married according to religious rites. Waheeda and I discussed the significance this ruling might have to women in similar circumstances. For more information about the forum contact her on (021) 650 5885.
