Doctor’s right to strike versus the patient’s right of access to health care
We also heard from Steven Ngobeni – from the South African Human Rights Commission and Damaris Fritz – from the People’s Health Movement was instudio. We were discussing the doctor’s right to strike versus the patient’s right of access to health care. Government employed doctors’ downed tools in protest over salaries and poor working conditions. But their action was met with mixed feelings, some people support their action whereas others feel that they have abandoned their patients and the oath they undertook to put patients first when entering the medical field. For more information about the People’s Health Movement contact (021) 447 2024 or the South African Human Rights Commission on (021) 426 2277 alternativly visit www.sahrc.org.za
