29 October – Health

Today on Sakhisizwe as part of our Health theme we interviewed Dr Arina Schlemmer. She spoke to us about Hypertension or High Blood Pressure. According to reports hypertension is very common among South Africans aged 16 years and older. It further states that 16 out of 100 people have hypertension. I’m sure you know a person or two who has high blood pressure so if you want to know more about the causes and how it can be prevented contact your local doctor or clinic.

We were joined by Gerhard Pieterse from Autism Western Cape. Autism is characterized by impaired social interaction, problems with verbal and non-verbal communication, and unusual, repetitive, or severely limited activities and interests. It is the most common condition in a group of developmental disorders known as the autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). Gerhard explained more about the symptoms and whether it is treatable or not.
