Today we spoke to Cheryl Beaton – From Woodside Special Care Centre and Shafiek Rajap – from the Eoan Group School of the Performing Arts. Woodside Special Care Centre is a home for profoundly intellectually and physically disabled children and young adults. The school has been chosen as the beneficiary of the 2nd annual benefit concert which is presented by The Eoan Group School of the Performing Arts. The “We live to serve” benefit concert takes place tonight and tomorrow at the Joseph Stone Auditorium at 8pm. Tickets costs R40 per person per night. We also spoke to Pamela Mtati – Founder and Director of Likhwezi Art Project. The project consists of a group of talented performing artist who has achieved recognition in different arts disciplines. The group’s repertoire combines song and dance from a variety of Southern African Cultures, accompanied by marimba, drums & percussion. We also spoke to Nigel Vermaas for the Arts update in and around the city. The South African Script Writers' Union will be giving a Radio Drama Serial Course from the 8th of September till the 5th of November 2007. We closed off the show with an interview I had with Howza and Martin Phike. They both signed up with Faith Records, Kabelo Mabalane and D-Rex. uMartin noHowza are here in Cape Town to promote their albums. Tomorrow they will be performing at Manzomthombo Senior Secondary School eMfuleni. Guys go and support the performance it’s for a good course. The line-up includes Ghetto Lingo, Martin, Howza, SST and more!!!

On Thursday, we were joined by Adwine George – A Shop Steward at Ellen Arthur clothing company. Adwine is the member of the Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers Union or SACTWU and we were talking about the role of unions in the workplace and the relevance of the trade union movement in the democratic South Africa. We also spoke to Mirriam Fredericks – from the Trauma Centre. The Trauma Centre and the Direct Action Center for Peace and Memory provide extensive life skills training course called “Stepping Out: Tools for Living. And 10 ex-combatants who underwent the training will be graduating tomorrow at the Trauma Centre in District Six. Peter Kratz – National Director of the Men on the Side Road Project also came in studio to talk about this project. Unemployment is a major issue we are faced with in our society, people are left without jobs as they either don’t have the necessary skills to perform the certain job required or just because it’s plain hard to find a job so this project tries to address that issue.
