Today we spoke to Erika ketterer - A dietician from the Heart and Stroke Foundation of South Africa. We were talking about stroke. A stroke or brain attack occurs when a blood vessel supplying oxygen and nutrients to the brain either bursts or becomes clogged with a blood clot. A build up of fatty material in the walls of arteries causes gradual narrowing of these arteries. For more information you can contact Heart and Stroke Foundation of South Africa at (021) 447 4222 or visit their website at www.heartfoundation.co.za
And we also had an interview with Sister Anne Cruickshank - Coordinator from the Western Cape Haemophilia foundation. Haemophilia is a rare inherited disorder that leads to abnormal bleeding, and specifically the inability to stop bleeding. Tomorrow is a World Haemophilia Day different awareness events are planned for the day. And on Wednesday there will be an event at the Site B Khayelitsha Hospital in Khayelitsha between 09h - 12h30PM.
