World Radio Day

On 13 February 2019,United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) celebrate the 8th edition of World Radio Day. This day marks a time where people around the world celebrate radio and how it shapes our lives. Radio informs, transforms and unites people and communities from all backgrounds together to a positive dialogue.
We had a interview with Brenda Leonard who is the Station Manager at Bush Radio and Denver Breda from the Soepu Soepu Movement to talk about Word Radio Day and the impact of community radio in the community.
The theme of this year is “Dialogue, Tolerance and Peace”.
Radio should give a platform to people for dialogue and productive conversation regarding issues that we meet in the community. Issues such as rape, gender equality, origin acceptance, famine,lost of language, unemployment..We don't dialogue enough said Denver. 
Radio should build tolerance between people of the community. We are not the same, we differ in skin color, religion, sex, education... so Radio must create ways to educate people in a way that we accept one another.
Brenda said that Peace should not be a luxury in the community but people live as hostages in their own houses fearing gangsters and the violence they impose them to endure: children are not allowed to walk at a certain time. Radio should promote Peace.
For our guests, community radio builds bridges between old and young, rural area and urban ones, poor and rich. It has a direct contact with the community so it has a big influence and a huge responsibility of educating the nation through its contents.

Winter having an effect on Bloodstocks

The Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) is appealing to all donors to donate blood as blood stocks are critically low. “The winter is having a severe effect on our bloodstocks and we are amidst a severe blood stock shortage”, says Marike Carli, Public Relations Manager at WCBS. There is a critical shortage in the O and B blood groups, with only a 2-day supply left. The A-positive blood stocks are also under severe pressure as only a 3-day supply is left. WCBS always aim to have a blood stock level of 5 days. The winter weather is not conducive to going out, and with the continuing storms in Cape Town, they are seeing the effects on their blood stocks. Blood donors suffer from colds and flu during this time and can subsequently not donate blood – up until the resolution of their symptoms .
