The Adrian and Wisp Wonder Toy Initiative

Today on Sakhisizwe, Building the Nation we spoke with Nickey Jacobs from Cape Town Society for the Blind and Adrian Davids who came up with Adrian wonder toy initiative that is supported by (CTSB) Cape Town Society for the blind.the Initiative aims to bringing smiles to the children in the Melton Rose informal settlement Eerste River.

The initiator Adrian and his guide dog will be running a toy drive to encourage the public to donate second hand or news toys to the Christmas initiative.

The drop off box can be found in the foyer of Cape Town Society for the blind reception office, 45 Salt River Road, Salt River, this initiative started last week Friday 1st December 2017 and i will run until the 20th of December 2017.
The collected toys will be distributed to the Eerste River area on the 23rd December 2017 between 10am-12:00noon.

Winter having an effect on Bloodstocks

The Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) is appealing to all donors to donate blood as blood stocks are critically low. “The winter is having a severe effect on our bloodstocks and we are amidst a severe blood stock shortage”, says Marike Carli, Public Relations Manager at WCBS. There is a critical shortage in the O and B blood groups, with only a 2-day supply left. The A-positive blood stocks are also under severe pressure as only a 3-day supply is left. WCBS always aim to have a blood stock level of 5 days. The winter weather is not conducive to going out, and with the continuing storms in Cape Town, they are seeing the effects on their blood stocks. Blood donors suffer from colds and flu during this time and can subsequently not donate blood – up until the resolution of their symptoms .
