Wednesday - Gender - Sonke Gender Justice Workshop

Today we had an amazing workshop on gender by Patrick and Leo from Sonke Gender Justice:

Sonke’s vision is a world in which men, women and children can enjoy equitable, healthy and happy relationships that contribute to the development of just and democratic societies.
Sonke Gender Justice works across Africa to strengthen government, civil society and citizen capacity to promote gender equality, prevent domestic and sexual violence, and reduce the spread and impact of HIV and AIDS.

They elaborated on the level of rape that’s high in South Africa hence Sonke together with their allies and other grassroots NGO have been demanding the National Strategic Plan  on how we can combat GBV ( Gender Base Violence) from the government.  Patrick adds that in that plan government needs to fund media that at grassroots level like Bush Radio to tell inform listens about the issues of prevention on violence at primary level.

He also touched on Violence in general, making examples of some of the townships in the Western Cape where violence is extremely high. He continues to talk about how we raise our children leaves a mark on their development and how they contribute in society and at home.

Our role is to be part of the solution to solve the high levels of violence in South Africa.

“We can not address violence with violence” Patrick Godana.
