House robbery victims wanted for a study

Stephanie Ineke van Niekerk
We closed off with Stephanie Ineke van Niekerk - Researcher. Stephanie is conducting a study in collaboration with Stellenbosch University into family coping and adjustment after a house robbery. She wants to find out how the families are coping after such a traumatic experience and what it is that helped them cope and recover from it. We also heard from Megan-Lee Meredith - Manager at Community Intervention Centre. The Community Intervention Centre provides a free 24-hour trauma and crisis intervention service. Stephanie is looking for families that were involved in a house robbery between January 2010 and December 2013. These families will be asked to complete a few short questionnaires that measure family crisis response, family communication, family routines, social and family support as well as other aspects of their family life. These questionnaires will take about 30 minutes to an hour of their time and she will travel to the families, so they don’t have to worry about getting to her. If you would like to share your story with Stephanie contact her on 084 580 8451 or send an email to resilient.study@gmail.com

The Community Intervention Centre emergency number is 082 821 3447. They provide free on-scene trauma debriefing and follow-up trauma counselling to the community.
