Human Rights - The Santa Shoebox Project is looking for donors

On Sakhisizwe today, we spoke to Irene Pieters - National Coordinator of the Santa Shoebox Project about this year’s campaign under the theme ‘Reaching the Rural child’. The Santa Shoebox Project is a community initiative that co-ordinates the donation, collection and distribution of personalized gifts at Christmas time to underprivileged children across South Africa and Namibia. The project hopes to collect 100 000 gifts for 2013 to be dispatched to more than 1000 children’s homes and other child care institutions while participating is a profoundly valuable and personal experience with each donor selecting the child he or she chooses to pledge a Santa Shoebox for by name, gender and age. Boxes should include some practical necessities such as toothpaste, toothbrush, face cloth, soap, and an item of clothing, sweets, educational supplies and a toy. The gift wrapped boxes need to be dropped off at central distribution points across the country between Friday October 18th and Saturday November 2nd, 2013. For further information you can contact the Santa Shoebox Project on 076 491 2407 or send an email to info@santashoebox.co.za
