Arts, Culture & Environment - Open Streets Cape Town & Maboneng Township Arts Experience

Siphiwe & Marcela
In today's show, we were joined by Coordinator of Open Streets Cape Town and AFAI's African Creative Market - Marcela Guerrero Casas and Siphiwe Ngwenya - who heads the Maboneng Township Arts Experience. We were talking about an event they will be hosting this weekend in Rubusana Street, kwaLanga. Open Streets is a citizen-driven initiative, working to design and promote streets which embed and generate respect for people, regardless of who they are, and how they move. It was founded in 2012 by a group of volunteers committed to a more equitable, integrated, safer and vibrant Cape Town. Ten home-owners in Rubusana Street, kwaLanga, are allowing their houses to be transformed into gallery spaces open to visitors, for tomorrow and Sunday. The formal exhibition opening at 12:00PM will be followed by activities including street drawing, skateboarding, yoga and games for kids throughout the day. A group of cyclists taking a trip from the city to kwaLanga earlier in the day will join festivities. For more information go to www.maboneng.com or www.openstreets.co.za
