SAMWU vows to take the City of Cape Town to the Labour or Equality Court

Archie Hearne - From the South African Municipal Workers Union representing the City of Cape Town’s aggrieved female fire fighters spoke to us about the latest developments and their meeting tomorrow. SAMWU continues to vow taking the City of Cape Town to either the Labour or Equality Court, in a bid to ensure that the court declares the actions of the City against its female fire fighters as discriminatory. This emerged after a CCMA hearing held last week Friday July 5th, 2013 as the City of Cape Town’s female fire fighters lose substantial benefits when they fall pregnant such as 23% of their allowances since the City declares pregnant fire fighters as non-operational during which period they forfeit their allowances. While non-operational males continue to enjoy their allowances. A planned meeting is expected to go ahead tomorrow Friday July 12th, 2013 at the Samwu offices in Beverley Street, Athlone from 10AM till 12PM. For further information you can contact Archie on 076 896 7288. Our efforts to get a word from the City of Cape Town failed.
