Gender - WHEAT Trust to host 1000 Women United Against Domestic Violence and Abuse lunch
In today show, we heard from Soraya Matthews -
Executive Director of the Women’s Hope, Education and Training Trust or WHEAT
Trust to tell us more about their 1000 Women United Against Domestic Violence
and Abuse lunch that’s happening next month. WHEAT Trust is a Southern African
Women’s Fund that promotes a culture of giving to empower grassroots women by
granting small Community Based Organisations and women who cannot yet access
formal funding. The trust is calling on all South Africans to stand together
and speak out against Domestic Violence and Abuse in light of the recent
scourge of gender based violence towards women and children and statistics such
as 1 out of every 4 women in South Africa is in an abusive relationship, or
every 8 hours a woman is murdered by her intimate partner and every 25 seconds
a woman or girl is raped. Since its inception in 2004, the initiative
includes a fundraising event, grant making to women-led organisations, and a
number of grantee workshops. This year’s luncheon will take place at the Cape
Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) on the 16th of May,
which offers inspiring speakers, wonderful entertainment, a great goody bag,
and good networking opportunities. If you would like to attend, please e-mail giving@wheattrust.co.za to
reserve your spot! Space is limited and they are expecting to sell out. For
more information on the event, including a price list visit www.wheattrust.co.za or contact (021)
