We closed off with an interview with Dr Neil Horn – From UCT’s Psychiatry and Mental Health division. We were talking Bipolar disorder and bipolar Awareness day that takes place on Wednesday the 26th of May. Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression, is a mood disorder characterised by extreme shifts in mood, energy and functioning. This is much less common than Major Depressive Disorder and Dysthymia, and only 2% of the population is affected over a lifetime. Males and females are affected equally.
