LRC and CGE fight to ensure access to maternity benefits for working women

We also spoke to Natasha Wagiet - An attorney for the Legal Resources Centre Gauteng’s office. She was speaking to us about the follow up meeting that they had in partnership with the Commission for Gender Equality regarding Maternity Benefits. A research paper has been developed by the LRC, which highlights international agreements and Constitutional imperatives, weighing these up against current South African legislation and practice. According to LRC, South Africa is failing to give effect to Constitutional and international obligations to ensure access to maternity benefits, with harsh consequences for working women but Natasha explained more.
