Ikhwezi Theatre Festival celebrates 12 years of development theatre

We closed off with an interview with Zoleka Helesi – Production Manager for the Ikhwezi Theatre Festival. The Ikhwezi Theatre Festival is a theatre development initiative that happens every year. The festival has been very successful since 1998. This year the Festival celebrates 12 years of development theatre with 12 dynamic productions which take to the Baxter Golden Arrow stage daily for one week only from the 11th to the 20th of March. The 12 productions in the line-up this year are: A Plague of Heroes, The Crossing, Born to Void, Ukuphuma Kwelanga, Zithin’Indaba, Behind my Shadow, Egoli, Kwanele!!!, Allie Pad Funny Worcester, The Blind Man’s Judgement, The Voice of a Mother’s Pulse and Trompies. The Festival runs daily from Mondays to Saturdays, at 10:00, 12:00, 13:30, 15:00, 17:00 and 19:00. All evening performances are at 19:00. Ticket prices are R35 throughout. Winter having an effect on Bloodstocks

The Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) is appealing to all donors to donate blood as blood stocks are critically low. “The winter is having a severe effect on our bloodstocks and we are amidst a severe blood stock shortage”, says Marike Carli, Public Relations Manager at WCBS. There is a critical shortage in the O and B blood groups, with only a 2-day supply left. The A-positive blood stocks are also under severe pressure as only a 3-day supply is left. WCBS always aim to have a blood stock level of 5 days. The winter weather is not conducive to going out, and with the continuing storms in Cape Town, they are seeing the effects on their blood stocks. Blood donors suffer from colds and flu during this time and can subsequently not donate blood – up until the resolution of their symptoms .
