The South African Savings Institute or SASI is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to developing a robust culture of saving in South Africa. SASI declared July as the National Savings Month to promote financial literacy. Previously, the Institute called on South Africans to put on their savings shoes and ride the rainbow to reach the proverbial Pot of Gold. This year, realising that more and more people’s expenditure baskets continue to be dominated by consumption, they are inspired to tell South Africans to “Tighten your Savings Belt”.
