07 August 07 - Human Rights

Just a recap of today’s show, we spoke to Mthunzi Funo – Programme Manager at EDUCO AFRICA. Educo Africa provides leadership development through outdoor-based experiential learning. Educo Africa focuses primarily on youth development in South Africa through leadership, life skills and employability training programmes. The organisation is committed to excellence in the field and to serving the needs of South African youth, more specifically those from under-resourced, marginalised and impoverished communities who have experienced trauma and are considered to be “at risk”. If you want more information you can contact (021) 761 8939 or visit www.educo.org.za.

We also spoke to Dr Greg Fried – Coordinator of the Philosophy Programme at the University of Cape Town. The Philosphy department is hosting a philosophy for leaners in Grade 10,11 and 12 for three successful Thursdays. On completion of the programme all participants will receive a certificate. If you would like to be part of the programme or want more information you can contact Dr Fried at 083 301 8624.

And our last interview was with Kim Mclean - well known as the Shark Lady pioneered White Shark Cage Diving and Surface viewing in South Africa in 1992, after working in the research circles with Great White Sharks. August is the Biosciences Month and the MTN Science Centre will be hosting different events in highlighting this month. Ever wondered what it feels like to be eye to eye with a Great White Shark? The Sharklady, Kim MacLean will present a talk on getting up close and personal with this majestic animal, and set the record straight for the public misconception of a "Great White Threat" as generated by much media hype tomorrow at 7:00 PM. If you want more information you can contact the MTN Science Centre at (021) 529 8100 or the Shark lady at (028) 312-3287 or visit www.sharklady.co.za
